Banh Mi

This sandwich brings me back to Vietnam, it's delicious every single time! I used pork for my recipe but you use any meat or even tofu.

 

INGREDIENTS for pork: 

- 1 pound pork tenderloin thinly sliced

- 2 tablespoons soy sauce 

- 2 tablespoons fish sauce 

- 3 tablespoons brown sugar 

- 2 tablespoons sesame oil

- 1 tablespoon oil 

- 3 tablespoons lemongrass minced 

- 3 tablespoons garlic minced 

- Salt and pepper for taste 

 

INGREDIENTS for pickled veggies:

- 1 cup carrots peeled and julienned 

- 1 cup daikon peeled and julienned 

- 1/2 cup rice vinegar 

- 3 tablespoons sugar 

- 1/4 cup water 

- Salt for taste 

 

INGREDIENTS for sandwich:

- 4 French rolls or baguette 

- Japanese mayo 

- Pate 

- Cilantro 

- Green onion sliced thinly

- Cucumber sliced

- Jalapeños thinly sliced

 

INSTRUCTIONS for pork: 

1. In a small bowl mix all wet and dry ingredients, stir together thoroughly. 

2. Add pork and mix well. 

3. Put in the fridge for 30 minutes.

4. Cook and let cool down before serving. 

 

INSTRUCTIONS for picked veggies: 

1. Combine all ingredients and let soak until ready to assemble banh mi.

 

INSTRUCTIONS for sandwich: 

1. Spread mayo on one side of bread, spread pate on the other side. 

2. Add pork. 

3. Add pickled veggies. 

4. Add cucumbers, cilantro, green onions and jalapeños.
